Laproscopy Assisted Hysterectomy

What is Laparoscopy-Assisted Hysterectomy?

A Laparoscopy-Assisted Hysterectomy (LAH) is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to remove the uterus. Unlike traditional hysterectomy, which involves a large abdominal incision, LAH is performed through several small incisions, typically around the abdomen. A laparoscope (a thin, lighted tube with a camera) is used to view the pelvic organs, and specialized surgical instruments are inserted to remove the uterus.

Our Laparoscopy-Assisted Hysterectomy Services Include:

  • Comprehensive Pre-Surgical Evaluation: Full assessment of the patient's medical history, imaging tests (ultrasounds, MRIs), and lab work to determine if laparoscopy-assisted hysterectomy is the most appropriate option.
  • Laparoscopic Surgical Procedure: Removal of the Uterus (Total or Subtotal): We perform the removal of the entire uterus (total hysterectomy) or just the uterus while preserving the cervix (subtotal hysterectomy), depending on the condition and the patient's preference.
Removal of Ovaries and Fallopian Tubes (Optional): In some cases, the ovaries and fallopian tubes may also be removed in conjunction with the hysterectomy (total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy).
  • Minimally Invasive Surgery: Small Incisions: A few small incisions are made, usually around the navel, through which the laparoscope and surgical instruments are inserted.
Recovery and Healing: The minimally invasive approach leads to quicker healing, less pain, and a shorter hospital stay compared to traditional open surgery.
  • Post-Surgical Care and Recovery: We provide detailed instructions for postoperative care, including pain management, wound care, and guidelines on activity and rest.
Follow-up appointments are scheduled to monitor recovery and ensure there are no complications.

Benefits of Laparoscopy-Assisted Hysterectomy:

  • Minimally Invasive: Smaller incisions mean less trauma to the body, reduced scarring, and quicker recovery time.
  • Faster Recovery: Most patients are able to return to daily activities within 1-2 weeks, compared to 4-6 weeks with traditional open surgery.
  • Reduced Risk of Infection: The smaller incisions and minimally invasive nature reduce the chances of post-surgical infection.
  • Less Postoperative Pain: Patients often experience less pain after the surgery, requiring fewer pain medications and a more comfortable recovery.
  • Shorter Hospital Stay: Many patients can go home the same day or within 1-2 days after surgery, depending on their condition.

Conditions We Treat with Laparoscopy-Assisted Hysterectomy:

  • Uterine Fibroids: Non-cancerous growths in the uterus that cause heavy bleeding, pain, or pressure symptoms.
  • Endometriosis: A condition where uterine lining tissue grows outside the uterus, causing pain and infertility.
  • Abnormal Uterine Bleeding: Uncontrolled or excessive bleeding that doesn’t respond to other treatments, often due to fibroids or hormonal imbalances.
  • Uterine Cancer or Precancerous Conditions: In some cases, hysterectomy may be performed to treat uterine cancer or reduce the risk of cancer.
  • Chronic Pelvic Pain: In cases where other treatments have failed, a hysterectomy may be recommended to alleviate persistent pelvic pain.
